Deacon Selection
Seeking the next Generation of Leadership
Growing, healthy churches are always looking for the next generation of leadership. As GFCC continues to grow, we believe it is time to raise up leaders for the church, fully in keeping with what the Scriptures say about Elders (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; Acts 20:17-36; 1 Peter 5:1-11) and Deacons (Acts 6:1-7; 1 Timothy 3:8-13). To listen to our process as presented by the GFCC Shepherds, watch this video (starting at 13:55)
Selecting Deacons
- Sermon Series -- Our process will begin with a three-part sermon series to address your questions about Deacons. These sermons will take be given on November 2, 9, and 16.
- Prayer & Fasting -- We invite GFCC to join us on November 6th and December 4th for two different days of prayer and fasting. These will help us attune our hearts to God as we seek out those whom he is already raising up as servant-leaders.
- Nominations -- During the same time as this series (November 2-16) our shepherds will be accepting nominations for deacons. To nominate someone, we ask you to speak to the person you wish to nominate first. If they agree to allow their name to be submitted, simply let one of our shepherds know either by letter, email, call, or text.
- Shepherds Follow up with those Nominated -- From November 2 to 19th, the current shepherds will reach out to every man nominated to discuss their willingness and/or readiness to serve as a deacon.
- Congregational Review and Feedback -- From November 23 to December 7, those nominees who are willing and ready to serve as deacons will have their names placed before GFCC for a time of feedback. Members of GFCC will have the opportunity to share any feedback with the shepherds.
- Finalizing nominees -- After this period of congregational feedback, the shepherds will work to finalize the nominees whom the congregation recognizes as ready to serve in the role of deacon.
- Ordaining our new Deacons -- We will ordain, install, or appoint our new Deacons on Sunday, December 14. There will be no Bible classes on this Sunday.
