Safety

“What is your church doing to keep people safe?”

Given the rise in violence and abuse in the past quarter century, we think that’s a great question. We take Romans 12:18 seriously: “If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” We have been intentional about creating a culture of safety in our meetings and congregation, and have two formal systems in place to help maintain this culture.

Safety Team

We have an anonymous team working behind the scenes to keep our campus safe and secure. The team has been trained in large group security through Strategos International, and participate in ongoing monthly trainings. This team is by invitation only, and every member is thoroughly vetted before the Safety Committee allows them to join. The majority of Safety Team members are CPR/AED certified. They also have an advanced first aid kit for medical emergencies.

ChildSafe

ChildSafe is designed to protect children and other vulnerable people in the church. This system of policies, protocols, and checks helps prevent opportunity for abuse.

  • All potential adult teachers and chaperones must complete a ChildSafe interview and, if appropriate, a background check before being approved to interact with children. Adults are eligible for this interview after six months of membership, if they are 21 or older.
  • We use the “Two Adult Rule”—all events involving children must be supervised by no less than two ChildSafe adults.
  • All classrooms have windows in doors that allow classroom transparency.
  • Children 3rd grade and younger can only leave their classroom after class if accompanied by their parent or guardian.
